Our Story

Sometime in 2020, I was referred to Aunty AJ—now my second mother-in-law. I made dresses for her and Aunty Grace—now my mother-in-law—without ever meeting them. They simply sent their measurements. When they arrived in Nigeria and tried on the dresses, they fit perfectly. Aunty AJ sent the balance and even tipped me—the first person ever to tip me since I started making dresses. I was so happy!

Aunty AJ later asked me to make more dresses for them. When they came to my workspace one Sunday evening, Aunty Grace asked if I was in a relationship. I said yes, and she wanted to know if it was serious. From that day, we kept a good relationship, and they continued to patronize me.

Fast forward to December 2023. Aunty Grace asked again if I was in a relationship. This time, I couldn’t give a definite answer. She then asked if she could share my number with her son. I reluctantly agreed, not thinking much of it. Honestly, I forgot I even gave her my number and pictures.

On January 9th, around 9–10 PM, I received a foreign call. When I picked up, I heard a charming voice, and I literally melted. It felt like we had known each other forever. The conversation flowed effortlessly, and we talked for over an hour! I didn’t want to get off the phone. The next day, I couldn’t wait for his call again. We talked twice every day, despite the time difference—me in Nigeria, him in America. He made his intentions clear from the start, but he didn’t officially ask me out, so I wasn’t sure what to call us at first. Weeks into talking, I realized I was falling in love. I admired how kind he was to his clients, even when no one was watching. He has a heart of gold—so rare these days.

Three months later, I was certain I was in love but scared of being heartbroken, so I fought my feelings. We hadn’t even met in person yet—just calls and FaceTime. When he finally came to Nigeria in April, I was nervous. I worried he might not like me or that things would feel awkward.

The moment I saw him, I melted again. He looked even better than his pictures—friendly, confident, and full of life. On the way home, sitting in the back seat, he held my hand, looked at me, and said, “You’re pretty, and I like what I see.” That moment gave me peace—it was all the assurance I needed. The next time we saw each other, he said he was going to marry me and would return by the end of the year to start the marriage process. I thought he was joking—until his mom said the same thing!

Since January 9th, not a single day has passed without us talking, even on our worst days.

And now, here we are—planning our future together. Saying yes to him has been the best decision I made in 2024.
